Ryan Gravenberch headed to Liverpool? Bayern Munich ready to sell the Dutchman
31 Aug 2023
It seemed like a perfect match when Bayern Munich signed Ryan Gravenberch for €18.5 million from Ajax Amsterdam last summer. But whether it was under Julian Nagelsmann or now under Thomas Tuchel, Gravenberch struggled for playing time at Bayern and could now be on his way to the Premier League, where Liverpool are interested. Whether a deal will get across the line before the window closes depends on several factors.
Although Gravenberch has made it clear to the Bayern bosses that he wants to leave this summer, the Bundesliga giants want at least €30m for the midfielder. With Ajax set to receive 7.5% of any future transfer, Bayern will also try to offload some of that cost to Liverpool. After all, Bayern need the money to sign a replacement have targeted Fulham’s João Palhinha. Reports have suggested that the Portuguese midfielder will cost at least €60m.
With Benjamin Pavard sold for €30m plus €2m in add-ons to Inter Milan, Bayern are now halfway there to cover the costs for Thomas Tuchel’s new no.6. Selling Gravenberch to Liverpool could add the final piece to Bayern’s transfer puzzle. Liverpool, in turn, are desperate to land an additional midfielder and has opened talks with Bayern representatives on Wednesday. Those talks appear to be positive, especially as the player wants to join Liverpool.
Ryan Gravenberch to Liverpool – Why did he not work out at Bayern?
Selling Gravenberch to Liverpool would certainly end one of the biggest misunderstandings in Bayern’s transfer history. In fact, Gravenberch, in many ways, draws parallels to another failed transfer: Renato Sanches. In both cases, the feeling hasn’t been that the player doesn’t have the talent but that they were just not quite ready to make the step to a big club.
